스칸디나비아 반도에서 서로 이웃하고 있는 스웨덴에 비해
덴마크에는 특별히 떠오르는 뮤지션이 별로 없습니다.
덴마크가 스웨덴과 비교해서 상대적으로 지명도가 적은 이유는
영어보다 모국어인 덴마크어로 노래를 부르는 것이 일반화되어 있었기 때문일지도 모르겠군요.
이런 덴마크에서 형제 사이인 Thomas Koppel과 Anders Koppel,
그리고 개성 넘치는 보컬리스트 Annisette 등으로 출발한
Savage Rose는 1967년 첫 싱글과 데뷔 앨범을 발표합니다.
그 당시는 Beatles나 Rolling Stones 같은 초특급 밴드가 맹위를 떨치고 있었지만
Savage Rose는 데뷔 앨범 한 장으로
북유럽 최고의 밴드로 급부상하면서 덴마크 차트 1위로 등장하죠.
지금 Joan Baez 의 음성으로 감상하시는 Where have all the flowers gone 이 곡은
후반기 히트 트랙만 골라서 1997년에 30주년 기념 앨범이 국내에 선보였던
Savage Rose의 1995년 앨범에 수록되어 있구요
Pete Seeger가 50년대 말에 만들었던 원곡을 리메이크 한 것입니다.
우리에게는 Kingston Trio가 부른 올드팝으로도 익숙한 곡이죠.
이곡은 다른 여러 가수들이 불렀고 또 먼저 들으신 Annesette의 음성과
많이 비교되는 점이 있긴 하지만 이번엔 제가 좋아하는 가수 Joan Baez 의 음성으로 올립니다.^^
